Random draw

Free online random name picker

The Seizenn random name picker is a free online tool that draws one or more names at random from a list: a winner, an order of turns, who draws whom or who does what. Everything happens in your browser, with no sign-up.

Participants0 / 100

Add an initial if two people share a name. Press Enter to move to the next participant. You can also paste a list (one name per line), up to 100 names.

Every name has the same chance and can only be drawn once. Draw everyone to get a random order of turns.

The last draw stays in this browser, without an account. Anyone with a link can read its contents; links are not password-protected.

What can you use a random name picker for?

  • Pick a winner

For a giveaway, a game with friends or a prize at work: add the participants, choose how many winners to draw and share the result link with everyone.

  • Decide who goes first

Card games, board games, meetings: draw a single name to settle who starts, with no arguing.

  • Set an order of turns

Presentations, oral exams, open mic nights or interviews: draw every name to get a complete order in which each person appears exactly once.

  • Share out chores

Dishes, groceries, the playlist or cleanup: “Who does what?” gives everyone one task, visible to the group or kept secret.

  • Plan a gift exchange

With “Who draws whom?”, everyone draws another person, never themselves. For the holidays, our Secret Santa generator adds exclusions (so couples don’t draw each other), a budget and wishlists.

How to draw names online

  1. 01

    Add the names

Type one name per line; press Enter to go to the next line. If two people share a name, add an initial.

  2. 02

    Choose the draw

Who wins, who draws whom or who does what. For winners, choose how many names to draw: one, several or everyone.

  3. 03

    See and share

The result appears right away. Copy it, share the result link or, for a secret draw, send each person their own link.

Is the draw really random?

Yes. The draw uses your browser’s cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues). Names are shuffled with the Fisher–Yates algorithm, and any value that would skew the odds is thrown away and drawn again (rejection sampling): every name has the same chance of coming up, and every possible order is equally likely. A name’s position in the list makes no difference to its chances. In “Who draws whom?” mode, the draw starts over whenever someone gets themselves, so every valid assignment stays equally likely.

The draw runs in your browser: names are not sent to our servers and you don’t need an account. The latest draw is saved in this browser so you can find it again. A result link holds a copy of the draw after the # sign, a part of the address that browsers don’t send to the server. Anyone who has the link can read that copy, though.

How the draw works

How do I pick several winners?

Choose “Who wins?”, add the participants, then set the number of names to draw, up to the total number of participants. Winners appear in the order they were drawn (1st, 2nd, 3rd…), which is handy for first, second and third prizes. The same name can’t come up twice.

How do I draw a random order of turns?

Choose “Who wins?” and, under the number of names to draw, select “everyone”. Each participant is drawn exactly once, in random order: the 1st goes first, the 2nd goes next, and so on.

How does drawing names between participants work?

Choose “Who draws whom?” and enter the names. Everyone draws another person: nobody draws themselves and each name is assigned once. Choose secret personal links or a board everyone can see.

How do I assign tasks randomly?

Choose “Who does what?”. Enter the names and one task per person. Tasks are shuffled and assigned one by one. Repeat a task using “Add a task” if several people should do it.

What is the difference between public and secret?

Public mode lets everyone view the shared board. In secret mode, each link contains only one assignment. The organiser can still open those links: this preserves a surprise, not restricted access. Winner draws are always public: a single link shares the whole result.

Can I use it for a giveaway or contest?

Yes, to pick winners among the participants of a giveaway or a game. To keep things transparent, announce the number of winners beforehand, run the draw in front of the participants (live or by screen sharing), then share the result link. The link shows a copy of the result, but on its own it doesn’t prove how the draw was made. Giveaways run by a business may have to follow specific rules.

Do I need an account?

No. The draw and its latest saved state stay in this browser. Shared links contain a snapshot and do not change when you draw again.
